Q - I don't want to be hypnotised, will I be "out of it" and not know what I'm doing? A - Absolutely not, you will be fully conscious and aware at all times. The sort of hypnosis often seen on TV is rather misleading. The "hypno" in hypnobirthing is about you taking control of your own mind and enabling yourself to relax. You will be totally aware at all times and be able to make decisions and requests as you wish. You will be able to enjoy and recall this positive experience as easily and normally as any other. If you would like to have a listen to a hypo relaxation there is a free one here - Free Hypnobirthing Relaxation Audio
Q - I will be having a caesarean, can I still hypnobirth? A - Of course! Just because you are having a caesarean you are still giving birth! All the techniques learned for a "regular" birth can be applied just as valuably during a caesarean birth. Relaxing and staying calm are just as necessary for a positive caesarean birth experience as they would be in a vaginal birth. Also, as "informed choice" is big part of my teaching at Calm in the Birth Room and there are still a lot of options to explore which can make your caesarean birth a gentle one.
Q - Can this guarantee me a pain free birth? A - No, it can't. Some women do report a totally pain free birth. Others report pressure but no pain. Others report that there was some discomfort but that they coped easily with it using the techniques they have learned. The theme which does tend to be heard in response to this question is that the birth experience was a positive one.
Q - I have had previous birth trauma, could this help? A - Yes. Many people come to hypnobirthing due to previous birth trauma. Two big focuses of Calm in the Birth Room are creating a fear free relaxed birth and promoting the fact that Mum has many choices. Hypnobirthing can teach you how to release the fear and enter the birth room with confidence. We will explore options and choices so that YOU can make the decisions regarding what is going to happen at your birth
Q – Are you qualified and insured? A - I am a qualified Hypnobirthing teacher with a diploma from KG Hypnobirthing who are listed as an accredited education provider by FEDANT. Q - Is hypnobirthing against my religion? A - No. This is not about handing over control to another being or power or being out of ones mind etc. It's about using the brain and body that we have been given/born with in order to learn how to relax enough to give birth easily and create a positive birth experience.
